first spring blossoms – free Photoshop and Illustrator patterns

16/03/09

I can hardly wait until spring arrives.
Here are my Photoshop patterns inspired by this impatient anticipation. Since they were created in Adobe Illustrator I attached Ai pattern swatches. The source of inspiration were beautiful photos of Penelope Cruz promoting the new Mango Collection.
Anyway, the patterns are free for both personal and commercial use. If you like them I would appreciate some feedback from you (some criticism is welcome as well).

Hello! Could you please make an .eps file out of the .ai file? I’m running CS3 and I can’t open it… Says it was generated in a newer version.

I’m sorry for that. I tried to back-save the .ai file (for CS2). Please let me know immediately if it still doesn’t work!

Wow, that was quick! I just get a blank document now when I try to open or import it :O Illustrator and its weird antics…

That’s ok, the document is created blank. Check the swatches (go to window>swatches if it does not open automatically).

Yep, it works ^^ A tip for people who’d like to use this awesome pattern without a colored background or just change its color: Apply the pattern on a square and choose Object > Expand. Now you can select and remove/change the background! :)

I would like to use this as a background on a website. I’ve been designing for a long time, but I’ve never tried to convert a .ps pattern into a web background.

    Any ideas? I’m stumped.

I’m not a web designer myself (at least not yet ;) ) but…
the the size of “first spring blossoms” tile is 413 px (width) x 555 px (height) so that should be the size of your document to be filled with pattern. Sure, if it’s too big you can resize it down afterwards (it’s a much better solution that rescaling the pattern itself). You can see the size of any pattern if you place your cursor over the pattern thumbnail in the pattern panel. Hope that helped.

Hi. Love these patterns but I am having trouble opening them. It must be a CS2 thing… I put them in the presets>swatches folder and then go to swatches menu>open swatch library. It tells me this was created in a newer version and some data loss may occur. And that is exactly what happens cuz there is nothing in the folder. I hope you have a moment to explain to me what I doing wrong cuz your patterns are great! I want to use them :D

I wanted to use one of these as a background on my website rebuild, I really love the pattern but I use Gimp. The version of Gimp I have can’t open the file (I’m getting a plugin error), even though its a Gimp document. Have you made a version that works in the latest version of Gimp or is there a trick to install the pattern? I had my heart set on it, and I was thrilled to see a Gimp doc.

These are so beautiful. I really love the first one, the brown and pink. I could make such a nice blog theme around it, but alas I am poor and use inkscape and gimp. As a result I am unable to open them.

These pictures are really lovely! We had been looking for something a bit of mixture of Asia and Europe. We will use this as our fb page cover photo (https://www.facebook.com/IndigoInkTranslationsPage). Thank you so much!
