Today’s post is inspired by traditional folk paper-cuts. The ones you can find on old faded postcards.
I thought to link it by contrast with a shiny iPhone. The screen I dream of (high on my wish list).
Below you can find my three suggestions for iPhone wallpaper.
You can also download the vector source and use it free for both personal and commercial purpose.

Paper-cut iPhone wallpaper (1)

This was my first (mission accomplished) adventure with fonts. If only I liked my handwriting I would immediately turn it into font too. But so I don’t. I even came up with a trick so that it looks fancier: I write each letter in the opposite direction from what I’m used to. And sometimes it works.
… But anyway, there is a great (easy, fast and free) way to create your own handwriting font. Or you can make a doodle font as I did (if you like them feel free to download and use).

And here is the precious link to where you can make your own font. You simply download a template, print it, fill in, scan and upload back. There is also a possibility to include special characters. (I did not – I decided to boycott them ;)).

I was actually planning Valentine’s Day not to be the main thread of my today’s post. But things changed since there is a new contest running on DeviantART. And it’s Valentine’s Day-related.
You download a template – more or less (there are some hearts) abstract shapes to be filled with solid colors. The criteria: (1) use of Valentine’s Day theme, (2) use of color palette, (3) ability to standout among other entries.

Who would not decide to go for a 1 lb box o chocolates ;) ? Would I (or is it a Fella plushie)?

Can you remember Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke in the striptease scene in 9 1/2 Weeks? Joe Cocker ?

That’s right. You can leave your hat on… It’s my entry.

And a funny thing: if you go 2 posts back, the formula of the DA contest seems pretty close to what the illustration class was about.

Coming soon: Something useful, downloadable and to do with Twitter (but not Twitter icons). Stay tuned.

Today, I discovered there is an artist I can recognize by a tiny sample of his work. I followed a tweet ‘focus on creating with negative space, while doodling…’ and there I was, taking an IllustrationClass. Created by Von. R. Glitschka (that’s the one). The idea was to fill some simple abstract shapes with whatever your imagination prompts.

He said: ‘be creative, push yourself and have fun’ .

I did: relaxed and doodled a bit (on a print of an exercise sheet).

And that’s what I got:

And a version with some colors added:
